Robert De Niro Robert De Niro, George Clooney, Marianne Faithful and Angelina Jolie are among the stars lined up to appear at the Berlin Film Festival.

The 57th festival, which opens on 8 February, is dedicated to Bonnie And Clyde director Arthur Penn, who will be presented with an honorary award.

The Good Shepherd, directed by De Niro, is one of the films competing for the festival's Golden Bear prize.

Steven Soderbergh's The Good German is also in competition.

The film, in which Clooney plays a journalist working in post-war Berlin, also stars Tobey Maguire and Cate Blanchett.

Irina Palm, a co-production between Belgium, Germany and the UK and starring Marianne Faithfull, will also be shown at the festival.

Organisers have yet to complete the line-up for entries to the competition but expect to do so by mid-January.

Last year's Golden Bear prize was awarded to Bosnian film Grbavica, by director Jasmila Zbanic.

Organisers are expecting more than 19,000 film professionals from 120 countries, including 3,800 journalists, to attend the two-week event.

More than 180,000 tickets will go on sale for public screenings during the festival.
