Dame Diana Rigg is to lead the cast in the first stage adaptation of Pedro Almodovar's film All About My Mother at London's Old Vic theatre.
The 68-year-old actress will star alongside Lesley Manville - famous for her role in Secrets and Lies - when the play opens in August.
It is the first time that film director Almodovar has allowed his work to be produced in English for the stage.
The 1999 film scooped an Oscar for best foreign language film.
'Wonderful asset'
Former Coronation Street actress Joanne Frogatt, who recently appeared in TV drama See No Evil: The Moors Murders, will play nun Sister Rosa in the play - a role filled by Penelope Cruz in the film.
Dame Diana will play ageing actress Huma Rojo, while Manville, 51, will portray Manuela, who embarks on a life-changing journey after the death of her son.
Almodovar said: "I have been a fan of Diana's all these years and I am thrilled she is playing Huma."
Actor and Old Vic artistic director Kevin Spacey said the cast has "unique qualities that we believe will bring this amazing story to our audience."
He added that he is a "huge admirer" of Manville's work and deemed her "a wonderful asset" to the production.
Dame Diana is best remembered for playing Emma Peel in The Avengers, and won a Bafta TV award for best actress in 1990 for her role in Mother Love.
She also played Tracy in Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service.
