Baby girl for Simply Red singer

Mick Hucknall Simply Red singer Mick Hucknall and his partner Gabriella Wesberry have had a baby daughter.

Born on Monday and weighing in at 9lb (4.08kg), Romy True Hucknall is the 47-year-old pop star's first child.

"Mother and baby are doing fine and Mick is on cloud nine!" said a message on the Simply Red website.

Hucknall and Wesberry first dated in the 1990s. They split up in 1995, while Wesberry was married before the couple eventually reunited in 2003.

The Simply Red singer is rumoured to have dated Catherine Zeta-Jones and supermodel Helena Christensen amongst others.

Disillusioned

In the past, he has blamed his inability to form a lasting relationship on his mother, who walked out when he was three years old.

But last year, Hucknall told the Observer newspaper: "I want children. I think it'll happen. I've had a bit of a journey in my life and I'd like to think I can pass some good on."

Simply Red broke onto the music scene in 1985 with the single Money's Too Tight To Mention.

The band scored a worldwide hit with their Stars album in 1991, and they have sold more than 40 million records worldwide.

After growing disillusioned with the music industry, Hucknall started to release music through his simplyred.com website and record label.

Their most recent album, Stay, entered the UK charts at number four in March.
