La Bamba actor Lou Diamond Phillips has been given three years probation after pleading no contest to a charge of battery against his girlfriend.
The 44-year-old, who appeared at a Los Angeles court, must have domestic violence counselling for one year and undertake 22 hours community service.
Prosecutors alleged he pushed and dragged the unnamed woman around their shared home.
A spokesman for Phillips said the actor would "abide by the court's decision".
Phillips' breakthrough role was as singer Ritchie Valens in the 1987 film La Bamba.
His other films include Stand and Deliver, Young Guns and Courage Under Fire, while he has recently guest starred in US TV series including Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Numb3rs.
