Oprah steps into reality TV genre

Oprah Winfrey Chat show host Oprah Winfrey is venturing into the reality TV genre for her latest project - developing two shows on the theme of money.

The Big Give will see the media tycoon hand out cash to 10 contestants who must use it to help other people.

The challenge will be to find "the most powerful, sensational, emotional and dramatic ways to give to others".

The second show, Your Money or Your Life, will send experts to help families out of money crises.

Winfrey is still deciding what her on-screen role will be in the programmes, but has said she will appear in at least one of them.

Fulfilling dreams

Her media empire already expands into magazine publishing, film and radio broadcasting as well as her top-rated daily chat show.

The latest programmes will be produced by her company Harpo Productions for US network ABC.

The Big Give will offer a grand prize of fulfilling a contestant's "wildest dream".

It follows on from Winfrey giving 300 members of her chat show audience $1,000 (£526) to donate to a worthy cause, which they could not use for themselves or their family.

In previous years she had given away cars to the audience and paid off their debts.
