Snoop Dogg surrenders to police

Snoop Dogg Rapper Snoop Dogg has been charged with attempting to carry an offensive weapon onto a plane after giving himself up to police in the US.

The 35-year-old - real name Calvin Broadus - was caught with a collapsible baton in his luggage as he boarded a flight in California on 27 September.

He was released on bail of $150,000 (£78,800) after being charged.

The musician, who could face up to three years in jail, is due to appear in court on 12 December.

Snoop Dogg told officials at the time of his arrest that the 20 inch (50.8cm) baton was a prop for a movie.

Promise

In October the rap star was charged with separate counts of possessing guns and drugs after being searched and arrested at another California airport.

Earlier this year, Snoop Dogg was cautioned by police in London following a brawl at Heathrow Airport.

In 1996 he was acquitted of murder following the death of an alleged gang member who was killed by gunfire from the vehicle Snoop Dogg was travelling in.

The rapper was convicted in 1990 of cocaine possession and charged with gun possession after being stopped for a routine police check in 1993.

He pleaded guilty in exchange for three years' probation and a promise to make public service announcements denouncing violence.
