Westlife top millennium chart

Pop band Westlife have beaten off all competition to take the first UK number one single of the new millennium.

The Irish boy band held on to the top spot after obtaining the last number one single of the century in last week's charts, with I Have A Dream/Seasons In The Sun.

Christmas rival Sir Cliff Richard's aptly titled single The Millennium Prayer plummeted to eighth place.

It was knocked off the number two slot by S Club 7's Two in a Million/You're My Number One.

Sir Cliff's criticised single took the tumble after seven weeks in the charts.

Artful Dodger's Re-Rewind The Crowd Say Bo Selecta snatched third place from John Lennon's re-released Imagine, which topped the chart 19 years ago.

Sir Cliff's single - the words of the Lord's Prayer set to the tune of Auld Lang Syne - was knocked from Number One by Westlife a week before Christmas, after three weeks at the top.

It's Only Rock 'N' Roll by various artists including the Spice Girls slipped from 22 to 32.
