Actress Taylor signs auction deal

Dame Elizabeth Taylor Dame Elizabeth Taylor has given auction house Christie's exclusive rights to future sales of her artwork, clothing, memorabilia and other possessions.

The 74-year-old star said she hoped the items she had collected would "be loved and respected in a sharing way" when they are passed on to new owners.

The auction house had previously sold gowns and jewellery on her behalf.

The deal, it said, "marks a fantastic continuation of our many years of work with this stunning film legend".

Proceeds from previous sales, including that of a diamond and emerald ring from former husband Richard Burton, have gone towards Taylor's Aids Foundation.

Shark dive

The two-time Oscar winner has been incapacitated in recent years by persistent heart and back ailments.

Earlier this year, however, she appeared on a CNN talk show to deny reports she was suffering from Alzheimer's disease.

And the actress was photographed last month taking part in a shark dive off the coast of Oaha during a holiday in Hawaii.

In a letter to US gossip columnist Liz Smith, she described the dive as "the most exciting thing I've done in my life".
