Keane cancel shows to allow rest

Keane's Tom Chaplin Pop group Keane have cancelled a concert at the Edinburgh festival because frontman Tom Chaplin is suffering from exhaustion.

They had been due to close the T on the Fringe series of concerts with a show in Princes Street Gardens on 30 August.

In a statement on Keane's website, Chaplin said he was "gutted".

The Sussex band have cancelled shows in Ibiza and Dublin on 23 and 31 August, but will perform in Belgium on Friday and two V Festival shows this weekend.

The trio, also comprising Richard Hughes and Tim Rice-Oxley, are due to play concerts in the US in September.

Back soon

The band website said Chaplin had been "advised to take a proper rest so that he can get himself back to full fitness in time for the rest of this year's touring activities".

It blamed "an extremely punishing worldwide promotion and touring schedule over the last few months".

"I am gutted that I have to take a break from touring," Chaplin said.

"I want to apologise to our fans, and I hope that everyone understands. Be assured that we will be back out there soon."

T on the Fringe organisers said full refunds for concert tickets would be available.

Keane won two Brit awards last year for best British album, for their debut Hopes and Fears, and best British breakthrough act.
