Singer hurt in hotel bar attack

Bobby Gillespie Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie is recovering after being beaten up in a bar in Madrid.

The 42-year-old rocker was assaulted as he relaxed in a hotel bar following a concert in the Spanish capital on Friday evening.

His manager, Rab Andrew, said he did not know the full extent of Gillespie's injuries, but added the singer had performed in Barcelona the next night.

"He's fine, back home, and sporting a couple of black eyes," he said.

New single

Mr Andrew added that the band were late for a recording of Top of the Pops as doctors advised him not to fly back to London until Sunday afternoon.

They had been due to perform earlier in the day.

"Top of the Pops were very understanding of the situation," Mr Andrew said.

Primal Scream had a number five hit in May with Country Girl from their latest album Riot City Blues.

Their new single, Dolls, will be released next month.
