Nelly Furtado tops singles chart

Nelly Furtado Canadian star Nelly Furtado fended off a string of football-themed tracks to take the number one spot in the UK singles chart, with hit song Maneater.

Maneater rose seven places, knocking Sandi Thom's I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker off the top after just one week.

Embrace's official football anthem, World At Your Feet, rose to number three with Tony Christie's (Is This The Way To) The World Cup at number eight.

Thom took the top spot in the album chart with Smile It Confuses People.

Other high-scoring football-themed singles included Three Lions, the classic track from Baddiel, Skinner and the Lightning Seeds at number 10.

Crazy Frog's We Are The Champions (Ding a Dang Dong) was just outside the top 10 at number 11, ahead of Tonedef Allstars's Who Do You Think You Are Kidding Jurgen Klinsman at 13, and Stan Boardman's Stan's World Cup Song at number 15.

Five new entries dominated the top of the album charts.

Scottish star Thom's debut was followed the Feeling's Twelve Stops and Home at number two and Ronan Keating's Bring You Home at number three.

Veteran star Paul Simon took the fourth spot with his recent album Surprise, ahead of Primal Scream's Riot City Blues.
