Cruise's delight at baby's birth

Tom Cruise on ABC News's 20/20 show Hollywood actor Tom Cruise has spoken of his delight at the birth of his baby daughter Suri last week.

"It was everything that we wanted it to be. It was spiritual. It was powerful. It was indescribable," Cruise said on US TV show 20/20.

"It's still something that I'm processing and keep reliving."

Fiancee Katie Holmes, 27, gave birth to the couple's first child in Los Angeles on Tuesday. Cruise has two adopted children from his second marriage.

Cruise and Holmes, who have been engaged since June 2005, plan to marry in late summer or early autumn, according to the 43-year-old star.

Their new baby weighed 3.4 kg (7lb 7 oz) and measured 50.8 cm (20 inches), spokesman Paul Bloch said, following the birth.

Cruise is currently in the middle of promoting his new film, Mission Impossible III.

The action sequel, also starring Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman, will be released in the UK on 4 May - a day ahead of its US release on 5 May.
