Former teen star Leif Garrett has been sent to jail for 45 days for failing drug tests while attending a drug rehabilitation clinic.
He was originally placed on the rehab programme as an alternative to prison time over cocaine charges.
A Los Angeles judge was notified of the failed drug test and ordered Garrett, 44, be jailed.
Garrett was both an actor and singer, with hits including I Was Made for Dancing and Surfin' USA.
He was placed on the drug programme in January for violating probation over a 2004 arrest for cocaine possession.
The programme was to last a minimum of one year, with frequent testing and daily counselling. He had previously failed at an attempt to get clean of drugs.
Garrett is facing further charges of possessing heroin to which he has pleaded not guilty.
The former teen idol has made more than 30 films, including Kid Vengeance and The Outsiders, which starred Tom Cruise, Matt Dillon and Rob Lowe.
He has also recorded more than 10 albums.
