Dallas movie 'guns for Travolta'

John Travolta John Travolta and Jennifer Lopez have reportedly been offered the two lead roles in a movie remake of the 1980s television series Dallas.

Travolta, the star of Pulp Fiction, has been asked to play the show's villain, JR Ewing, according to Variety.

The industry newspaper also says singer and actress Lopez is being sought for the character of Sue Ellen.

Variety said 20th Century Fox plans to start filming at the end of the year, with Robert Luketic directing.

Australian director Luketic has worked with Lopez before, as director of Monster-in-Law, and he was also behind the Reese Witherspoon film Legally Blonde.

Luke Wilson proposed

Two other actors have been proposed for major characters in the Dallas remake, the newspaper reported.

Larry Hagman

Luke Wilson would play Bobby Ewing, JR's younger brother, who was memorably killed in a car crash and then came back to life when his death turned out to be nothing more than a dream.

Shirley MacLaine has been suggested for Eleanor "Miss Ellie" Ewing, the woman at the head of the family.

None of the actors has yet accepted the proposed roles.

Dallas was broadcast in the US and UK from 1978 to 1991. The primetime soap opera about love and betrayal among Texan oil magnates was exported around the world.
