Madonna scores 12th chart-topper

Madonna Madonna has notched up her 12th number one single in the UK, with the track Sorry entering at the top of the chart.

The achievement comes over 20 years after the singer's first number one - Into The Groove - in 1985.

Corinne Bailey Rae, winner of the BBC's Sound of 2006 survey of new talent, has the second-highest new entry, with Put Your Records On at number two.

Brit Award winner Jack Johnson saw sales of his album In Between Dreams soar, giving him the top album.

US singer-songwriter Johnson, whose album was released a year ago, won best international breakthrough artist at the ceremony on 15 February.

Veteran singer Neil Diamond had the only new entry in the top 30 albums, with 12 Songs coming into the chart at number nine.

Other new entries in the singles chart include Westlife's Amazing at number four and the Darkness' Is It Just Me at number eight.

A re-release of Michael Jackson's Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough - part of a series on the new Dualdisc format, which also includes video - was another new entry at number 17.

Last week's number one, Leo Sayer's Thunder In My Heart Again, remixed by DJ Meck, fell to number three.
