BBC ends Dick and Dom's Bungalow

Dick and Dom BBC children's programme Dick and Dom in da Bungalow will come to an end when its current series finishes next month.

Since its debut in 2003, the Bafta-winning Saturday morning show built up a devoted following with its mix of pranks and slapstick humour.

Presenters Richard McCourt and Dominic Wood are in talks about new formats, the BBC said.

A spokeswoman added the show's end had been agreed in advance. "They just wanted to do something new," she said.

She added that after five series and 266 episodes, "Dick and Dom's only post-Bungalow thoughts at the moment are for a rest and a very long bath to remove ingrained Creamy Muck Muck".

The show has courted controversy with games including one where adults and children had to shout the word "bogey" as loudly as they could in public places.

A near-naked appearance by the two presenters led to a censure from the BBC's programme complaints unit, and Wood was also criticised for wearing a T-shirt bearing a sexual innuendo.

Conservative MP Peter Luff asked questions in Parliament about the show's website last year, asking: "Is that really the stuff of public service broadcasting?"

McCourt and Wood also hosted an ill-fated revival of quiz show Ask The Family.
