Famous for his radical version of Swan Lake, which rocked the dance establishment with its corps of male swans, Matthew Bourne is one of the most celebrated choreographers in Britain.
Stage productions like Highland Fling and Play Without Words have won him a dedicated following, not to mention five Olivier awards, two Tonys and an OBE.
Now he returns with Edward Scissorhands, his eagerly anticipated dance version of the 1990 Tim Burton movie that made a star of actor Johnny Depp.
Billed as "a touching and witty gothic fairytale", it tells of a young man who is left with scissors for hands after his inventor creator dies before completing him.
Edward Scissorhands runs at Sadler's Wells in London from 22 November to 5 February, and Matthew is busy rehearsing the show.
