A song by seminal 1980s band The Smiths has been voted the best track to listen
to when you are down in the dumps.
I Know It's Over topped a poll of tunes which people turn to when they are miserable in The Songs That Saved Your Life poll by BBC radio station 6 Music.
The song begins: "I can feel the soil falling over my head/And as I climb into an empty bed/Oh well."
REM's Everybody Hurts and Radiohead's Fake Plastic Trees and Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb also made the top 10.
The poll, which attracted thousands of listeners, is part of a 6 Music special, examing the affect of music on peoples' moods and the link between mental health and music.
Listeners were invited to choose "the songs you cry along to, the ones you shout at, and the tunes that just make you feel a whole lot better" for those having "a bad day, week or year".
The Smiths song is from the band's 1986 album, The Queen is Dead, voted the best album of all time by British music magazine NME.
One 6 Music listener said: "That song is like a giant pair of arms coming out of the speakers to hug me."
More uplifting tunes featured in the top 10 include Good Day Sunshine by the Beatles and Bowling For Soup's Girl All The Bad Guys Want.
Al Green, Lou Reed and The Darkness all made it into the top 20.
