Reborn in the USA: Your views

Tony Hadley ITV's comeback contest Reborn in the USA reached its climax on Saturday when Tony Hadley was declared the winner.

The show pitted pop stars of the 1980s and 1990s against each other in a bid to gain a new recording contract.

"Glitter fell from the ceiling, audience members checked their watches and competitors scurried off under an overwhelming air of anti-climax," said BBC News Online's Tom Bishop.

But what did you think?

Was it an exciting final? Will Tony Hadley's music career be revived?

I can't believe a show with so much potential could have been produced and put together so badly. The finale was particularly poor, with the sound levels all wrong (and in a show about music, that really does ruin everything). avina's presenting left a lot to be desired. Had the show been a little more polished throughout the series, it could have been a massive success, but as it stands it just felt tacky. Regardless, congratulations Tony - hope you get the (second) break you deserve.

Watched some of the show but it did seem to be extremely amateurish. Peter Cox seemed the most professional and I was surprised he was not in the final but do think he has given himself a second chance at a career. Tony Hadley seems to have lost most of his Spandau star quality and seems to be more of a wedding singer now than an major star...
Mermaid, Ireland

I'm sure Peter Cox would have won. It was unfair that he didn't get a chance to have a public vote the week he went out - I think in this case the voting was disorganised and unfair.

" The format was poor, the planning even worse but if it brings Elkie, Pete and co. back into the limelight it's been worth the long haul "
Alan, UK

What happens now? There was no mention of whether he was going to get a record contract or anything...
Anon, UK

It was a bad finale to a series that had had some classic moments, Tony singing karaoke to True with the Americans having no idea who he was, the Welsh tourists thinking he was Simon Le Bon, anything Leee John got up to, the fiasco that was Mark Shaw...... Elkie showed us that age will never hold you back despite what the media says, Peter Cox was fabulous throughout, I could go on. But overall congratulations to Tony, see you on tour in May!!!
PB, UK

Tony Hadley seemed to be totally up his own backside, and I think Elkie Brooks should have definitely been in the final. Michelle Gayle has a wonderful voice, and doesn't sound like a strangled cat, unlike Mr Hadley. Let's hope it doesn't come back for a second run.
Moo, UK

I think they should have at least extended the show to give everyone a chance to sing something. If we had to listen to that out of tune rendition by Dollar, why couldn't Peter Cox and the others be given another chance to exhibit their talents? Instead they were made to sit in the corner like old shoes, which I thought was insulting to everyone who took part.
Dawn, UK

I had great expectation at the start of the series, especially after such reviews on TV and magazines etc, but what a let down. It was good however to see our only one great female singer Elkie Brooks - get out while the going was good. It should have been down to three, Tony, Pete and Elkie, what a contest that would have been.
Tom Maguire, UK

For me there were was some real talent on this show in the shape of Pete Cox, Tony Hadley and Leee John... but the undoubted star was Elkie Brooks. She did not play to the cameras, there were no cheap publicity stunts and I'm sure many had forgotten just how under-rated a singer she has always been. The format was poor, the planning even worse but if it brings Elkie, Pete and co. back into the limelight it's been worth the long haul.
Alan, UK

Come on, the show was really good, a full set of singers, must have been hard going all round! Leee was good, so was Peter, but the star is Elkie, why did she do it???
Ernie, UK

The Reborn show... well it was good TV, very badly used, the stars were good, and we had Elkie (thank god).
Peter, UK

The series has been very enjoyable. However, the different format used in the penultimate episode means that the UK's "people's choice" Peter Cox did not get through to the final. That just made the final a farce.

As talented as Tony and Michelle are (and they certainly are) we all know that Peter Cox was "robbed". He clearly forgot his words last week but the fact remains that he had the very best voice and gave the best performances throughout.

Hopefully if there is another Reborn tour in the future the producers will learn not to change a format that works, at the 11th hour. But the good news is that the very talented Peter Cox will hopefully once again achieve the success he so rightly deserves.

" The only saving grace was Elkie Brooks "
Peter, Wales

I feel they should have made more of the final. Certainly some kind of prize should have been given to the winner, otherwise what was the point? Tony Hadley still has an excellent voice, but in today's teenage boy and girl band dominated charts, I'm not sure there's a market for him.
Susan, UK

Was disappointed with the final show, no celebration etc. There was no competition on the final night, Tony Hadley, much more talented and his voice much stronger and in tune, JMO. Peter Cox should have been a finalist, it's a shame he forgot the words of the song the previous week, he has such a fantastic voice, but that's life I guess. And Dollar's performance, well I won't go there!!! Overall, a great series, with some great performers/talent.
M, UK

Come on!! The show was ok, it must have been hard going to get it up and running, give the TV guys a break!! We all enjoyed it at home, the best was a bit of a toss up for us, without a doubt Elkie Brookes and second was Leee John, of the two we liked Elkie, haven't seen her live but will do.
Paul, UK

The only saving grace was Elkie Brooks, why the hell was she on that show - Elk see you on your next tour.
Peter, Wales

A has been versus a never really was... hmmm.
Caroline O'Connell, Ireland

The finale was a total flop - how can you have that much talent in a studio and just make them sit there and smile? I already liked Tony, but through the series have discovered Pete and the wonderful Elkie, can you imagine a duet between those two, that would be really something.
Kev, Norfolk

I knew Tony some time ago and would like to say that it is about time he was back where he should be. I believe he has worked tirelessly to be where he is now. All best wishes and good luck to him and his.
Lisa Clarke, Bournemouth

Why didn't Peter Cox get through to the final?! He had the best voice by far - closely followed by Tony Hadley. How on earth did Michelle Gayle get in the final two?! Peter Cox is gorgeous - please release a single soon!!
Penny, UK

I enjoyed the show but the final was really bad, why was everyone brought on just to sit there, it was embarrassing. Davina only spoke to a few of them and when Tony won there was no prize given, what was the point?? I don't think it would work again unless the UK got to vote for the two with the lowest vote in the USA each week, becasue without doubt if that was the case Pete would have won.
Julie, UK

Congratulations Tony. But Peter Cox was robbed, they can't just change the rules halfway through the series. The final three should have been up for the public vote
Alison Conaghan, N.Ireland

Pete Cox, Tony (smug) Hadley, Elkie Brooks, Hello??!!! Didn't Michelle Gayle get through to the final?!!!
June, UK

Very poor ending, no climax, no thrill, even the stars were glad to see it over. But I must say the live sound on the final night was excellent, the backing band did us proud, shame the other singers just sat around waiting, we would have loved to hear that Elkie Brooks sing again, she is and was the true star of the show, and ashamed to say we missed her the first time around, still we are about to put that right.
Danny, UK

Well to be honest the show lost a lot of it's credibility almost straight away. The good news is that I have discouvered Elkie Brooks, wow what a star.
Joanne Webb, Wales

I thought that all the contestants would be singing again on the very last show. The real winner should have been Peter Cox though. He came in pole position three times and second twice, and just because he forgot his lines once that was it. The final should have been between Tony and Peter, not Tony and Michelle.
Stuart Gwilym, Wales

The whole series looked like an audition for a cruise ship singer. Why do these people bother? Mr hadley should swallow his pride make up with the Kemps and go on an 80s revival tour supporting Duran Duran.
Larry Brown, UK

What an anti-climax. Surely this programme was fixed from the beginning. Mark Shaw was obviously a tool to promote the show and grab the ratings. It is a travesty that Britain's greatest female singer Elkie Brooks was out long before she deserved to be. I can only imagine what a great final it would have been with Elkie and Pete battling it out with a live band. Whilst reading articles in papers and magazines it seems that it is only Pete and Elkie that have come out of this whole fiasco unblemished and with their reputations intact and a keen new interest in their careers.
Lee, UK

What a disappointment. I've enjoyed the series over the last few weeks but after the final I was left wondering why I'd watched it. There was no prize for the winner, no big celebration. All that came out of it was the publicity the contestants have been able to generate for themselves, which I suppose was the only reason for the show.
Chris, UK

I still think Peter Cox should have won, I just love his voice.
Mark, UK

There was only ever two people in the show and that was Tony Hadley and Leee John. The Peter Cox arrived and I thought him and Tony were the only two ever going to be in the Final. It was good that it revived both their careers and killed off once and for all the careers of the others. After some of the performances, especially Dollar's & Sonia's I doubt if they will even get a booking at Butlins again.
Matt Pepper, UK

I thought it was a big shame that Peter Cox forgot his words, that led to him losing a place in the final and more than certain go onto win. Tony Hadley was a bit of a pub singer throughout the eight weeks, however he was entertaining and sure will go on for years to come.
Sally Gibson, UK

This show was a wasted opportunity. The producers kept changing the format week to week, and the broadcast time, so it never got a big audience. Some of the best performers, such as Elkie Brooks, were voted off early by USA audiences who were clearly looking for bland copies of the original songs that were being performed instead of original interpretations. I hope they never make another series.
John Cairncross, UK

We all watched Reborn, to be fair there was a fair lot of talent on that show, and our lady of song Elkie Brooks, great to see she is doing her stuff, and sounding brilliant, we will certainly be going to her next concert.
Phillip, GB

The true winner of this show has been Peter Cox. He has shown himself to be a true performer, with a great voice and personality to match.
Sharon, UK

We should have been allowed to vote for Peter Cox, he was far superior to Michelle and should have been in the final alongside Tony Hadley!
Micklett, UK

Well to be honest the show lost a lot of its credibility almost straight away!! The TV people kept getting things wrong and generally messed up, but the good news is that I have discovered Elkie Brooks, wow what a star.
