Madonna kept off UK top spot

Madonna's American Life cover Madonna has missed out on the number one spot in the UK charts as Oliver Cheatham and Room 5 hold on to the top position for a fourth week.

The dance track Make Luv, made famous by a deodorant advert, also prevented Robbie Williams and Blur from making an impact at the top.

Madonna's American Life, the debut single from her album of the same name which is released on Monday, entered at number two, despite predictions it would make number one.

The star decided to drop the promotional video to the single after it was deemed "inappropriate" at a time of war because it featured a grenade being thrown towards a President Bush lookalike.

US rapper 50 Cent held onto his number three position for a second week, his sixth week in the chart in total.

Robbie Williams' Come Undone, taken from his Escapology album, was a new entry at number four.

Blur's first single since guitarist Graham Coxon left the band reached number five in its first week.

Return

The trio's seventh album, Think Tank, will be released on 5 May.

The only other new entry in the top 10 came from boy band D-Side, with Speechless entering at number nine.

Jam Master Jay Former Hear'say singer Kym Marsh saw her debut solo single Cry slip down from number two to seven.

In the album charts Coldplay's A Rush of Blood to the Head has returned to number one following a week of live concerts around the country.

The album displaced the White Stripes' Elephant, which slipped to number two, followed by Justin Timberlake's Justified at three.

The only new album in the top 20 is the Greatest Hits of Run-DMC.

The hip hop group broke up following the death of DJ Jason 'Jam Master Jay' Mizell in a shooting incident in October 2002.

The album includes the singles It's Like That, It's Tricky and Walk This Way featuring Aerosmith.
