Kate Lawler: Cool customer

Kate Lawler's cool demeanour instantly won the IT worker from Beckenham, south London a devoted following - and eventually made her the Big Brother winner.

Kate, who lives with parents Sylvia and Des, has a twin sister, Karen, as well as a 17-year-old brother and a 25-year-old sister.

She tried to become famous before being selected for Big Brother, modelling in a hair magazine and appearing on a poster for club music promoters Ministry of Sound.

Despite having to live in the "poor" half of the house for much of the series' 64-day run, the 22-year-old rarely lost her temper and kept her wits about her most of the time.

She liked to call herself a "geezer bird", entering the house in an England T-shirt and professing a fondness for football and beer.

But her mask slipped after a drinking game which ended in her being spectacularly sick.

Her good looks and her tendency to wear skimpy bikinis ensured her popularity with the men of the house - as did her decision to do their washing for them.

" I'm going to keep dieting - I refuse to go out of this house a fat bloater "

But she clashed with Adele Roberts over a planned walkout in protest about the notorious bars, and had a dramatic fight with Jade Goody as tensions spilled over in the final week.

She was close to evicted contestant Spencer Smith, and her liking for Alex Sibley was expressed in bedtime games of "follow the van" in which Alex had to find a luminous toy van somewhere on Kate's body.
