Pulp's Jarvis Cocker weds

He wed Camille Bidault-Waddington in what he called an "idyllic" village in northern France.

Invited guests at the wedding included the other members of the band.

The event was described as "beautiful" and "romantic" but with lots of drunken antics, according to the Sheffield-based band's official website.

Not one for conventions Cocker, 38, got up on a makeshift stage to belt out a rendition of Purple Haze during the day.

On paper the two make an unlikely couple because, while Cocker is known for his shabby and laidback sartorial style, his new wife is a fashion stylist.

Cocker turned down a deal to sell the wedding snaps to a glossy magazine.

Brit pop

Pulp recently played a gig in the surroundings of the environmentally friendly Eden Project in St Austell, Cornwall.

The band, who hit the big time in 1995 with singles such as Common People and Do You Remember the First Time?, sang tunes from their latest album We Love Life as well as nature-themed songs.

Formed when Cocker was at school, the band have been releasing singles since 1983 and were one of the leading lights of the Britpop scene.

But unlike many of their peers, Pulp have stayed together to record and tour extensively.

Cocker has featured considerably in tabloid gossip pages over the years for his love going out and having a good time.

Pulp's next project is a greatest hits album due for release in the autumn.

They will also be playing the Reading and Leeds festivals in August.
