Police mull So Solid date

The south London garage act - dogged by violence at concerts - have been booked to play in November.

Two fans were shot outside a performance last November at London's Astoria.

Dates at Cardiff, Leicester, Liverpool and London were cancelled soon afterwards with the whole of their UK tour eventually scrapped.

Lincolnshire Police said they received reports on Monday that the band had been booked for a private party in Skegness.

A spokesman said officers were now carrying out a risk assessment for the appearance and would decide whether or not to allow the gig to go ahead.

Reports investigated

Inspector Dick Holmes said: "We will be doing a risk assessment of the situation.

"We heard yesterday that it was happening and we are investigating the validity of that information."

A So Solid Crew spokeswoman said the band had been booked for the Butlins event and would be appearing in November.

She said: "As far as we are concerned it is all confirmed and going ahead."

Butlins said they were not involved in booking the acts for private parties and were not aware of any police investigation into the event.

John Davis, organiser of The Big Reunion, which booked the rap act for the weekend-long party, said the band were just one of a number of artists playing.

He said: "If [the police] have got any concerns I am sure they will come to us but it is a private party.

"Hopefully we shouldn't have a problem."

Around 4,000 people are expected for the event, which also boasts such acts as Spandau Ballet's Tony Hadley, DJ Tall Paul and ex-Neighbours star Jason Donovan.

The scrapping of a UK tour last year has been followed by cancelled dates in Dublin and at summer music festival Homelands this year.

Away from the stage, bandmember Ashley Walters was sentenced in March to 18 months for firearms offences, while colleague Jason Moore avoided prison for driving while disqualified.
