A spokesman for the singer said that Tosca could be his operatic swansong.
Pavarotti enjoyed his first taste of international success at the Covent Garden venue in 1963.
"He can only do so many dates, and there are many international opera houses in talks with Pavarotti at the moment," his spokeswoman in London said.
Showbiz magazine closes
Showbiz and comment magazine Talk has closed - as a result, says the editor, of the 11 September attacks.
The US magazine had a two-year run after a much-publicized debut in 1999, in the wake of the scandal surrounding Monica Lewinsky and Bill Clinton.
Edited by the UK's Tina Brown, the magazine became well-known for its lavish parties, which often attracted figures from New York high society.
The changed economic and cultural climate "made it virtually impossible for a stand-alone title like Talk," said Ms Brown in a statement.
Manning's niece to join Corrie
The niece of comedian Bernard Manning is to join the cast of Coronation Street.
Manchester-born Francesca Manning will make her first appearance in the show next month - as Sandra Milligan, the love interest of a character at the Rovers Return.
Ms Manning, who trained at RADA, said she was delighted and excited to be joining the cast.
A Coronation Street source is reported to have said the actress landed the role on her own merits - before it was known that she was related to Bernard Manning.
Unpublished Eliot poem recorded
Lord Lloyd-Webber has included a sung version of an unpublished TS Eliot poem on his soon-to-be-released CD collection.
The work - Pollicle Dogs and Jellicle Cats - was given to Lloyd Webber by Valerie Eliot, the poet's second wife, when the composer was preparing material for his musical Cats.
The 713-word poem is a comic verse, the story of a lonely man whose life is made worthwhile by his pets.
It appears to have been written about the same time as other works which made up Eliot's volume Old Possum's Book Of Practical Cats - which inspired Lloyd Webber's Cats.
