Sir Paul launches new Mayo show

Mayo left Radio 1 in February after more than 15 years.

His new slot, starting on 8 May, will go out between 1300 and 1600 every weekday and cover news and sport - in line with the station's remit.

But there will also be regular features, including a daily star interview at 1400, kicking off with former Beatle Sir Paul.

Mayo is said to be "delighted" that Sir Paul has agreed to be the programme's first guest.

Other features will include News on Demand where listeners can choose, over the phone and website, which subject will be debated by a panel of experts.

A celebrity will be put on the spot when they become Celebrity News Junkie for the week and have their current affairs knowledge tested.

There will also be regular film and music reviews and quizzes.

And weekly coverage of Prime Minister's Question Time will come live from the House of Commons every Wednesday afternoon.

Mayo joined Radio 1 in 1986, taking over the prestigious Breakfast Show slot in 1988. He presented the programme for five years.

Mayo moved to his Radio 1 mid-morning slot in October 1993 before being wooed by Radio 5 Live.
