Carphone mulls TalkTalk spin-off

Carphone Warehouse store

Carphone Warehouse is considering plans to spin off its TalkTalk broadband internet business, reports say.

The company's founder Charles Dunstone is expected to confirm this week that he wants to break up Carphone Warehouse as part of an overhaul of the company.

However, any move to list its broadband arm would not happen until late 2009 when markets may have recovered from the current slump, the reports said.

Carphone Warehouse is expected to report interim results this week.

The possible shake-up comes after it announced a major tie-up with US retailer Best Buy, which it hopes will transform its growth in the US.

A spokeswoman said the company would not comment on the reports in The Sunday Times and The Sunday Telegraph.
