Theme parks animate Disney profit

Walt Disney shook off concerns about slowing attendance at its theme parks as it reported a 9% rise in quarterly net profits.

Strong results at its ESPN media business also helped it make $1.28bn (£646m) in the three months to June.

The weak dollar boosted the value of takings at Disneyland Paris, as its theme park business profit grew 5%.

But its studio business saw profits drop 49% after poor demand for The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.

The results also included costs of Disney-Pixar's recently released Wall-E - which has proved a hit with audiences.

The results, which included revenue up 2% to $9.24bn, were slightly ahead of analysts expectations.

"The real question becomes how are they going to talk about going forward?" said Pali Capital analyst Rich Greenfield.
