Canal Plus boosts Vivendi profits

World of Witchcraft game Media giant Vivendi reported solid 2007 profits, helped by the continued success of its World of Warcraft game.

Net income was 2.8bn euros, ($4.29bn, £2.16bn) up 8% on the previous year.

Chief Executive Jean-Bernard Levy said 2007 had been an "excellent year" and he forecast a strong 2008, with growing sales at its TV and music units.

The video game unit, Blizzard, performed well, helped by the World of Warcraft game, which reached 10 million subscribers at the end of last year.

But Blizzard Entertainment's earnings were affected by the costs of developing the next game in the series.
