US car firm Ford is to inject some $1bn (£513m) in operations in Brazil to 2011, including buying Brazilian off-road vehicle firm Troller.
Ford - the fourth largest car maker in Brazil - said the investment included product development plans and expansion at a plant in Sao Paulo state.
While the car company has seen sluggish sales in the US, Ford has managed in Brazil to increase its market share.
The news comes a day after Ford posted an 8% drop in annual car sales.
The head of Ford in Canada and South America, Dominic Di Marco, said the firm was confident in what is Latin America's largest economy.
The decision to buy Troller comes after talks over such an acquisition took place last November.
Ford did not reveal how much it would be paying for the firm.
