Airbus set to sell 180 planes
The European Airbus consortium is reported to be close to selling 180 new aircraft.

The deal consists of two big contracts with America's United Airlines and with three Latin American airlines.

The total value of the deal has been put at nearly $7bn.

Executives at Airbus are said to be cautious, stressing that the crisis in Asia might cause airlines in the Americas to be prudent.

Earlier this week the Malaysian government asked Boeing to delay delivery of new a fleet of new aircraft.

The Airbus consortium consists of French state-owned Ste Nationale Industrielle Aerospatiale, British Aerospace Plc, Daimler-Benz Aerospace, and Construcciones Aeronauticas SA of Spain.
