US and EU put air dispute on hold
The United States and the European Union have decided not yet to pursue a spat over aircraft subsidies.
The two sides filed tit-for-tat World Trade Organisation complaints in October, alleging illegal subsisides for manufacturers Boeing and Airbus.
They had a 60-day consultation period to try to find a solution before a dispute settlement panel was formed.
But both have said they want to give the new EU Trade Commissioner, Peter Mandelson, time to review the issues.
The first meeting between Robert Zoellick, the US Trade Representative, and Mr Mandelson will take place on Monday.
The delay does not imply that the dispute is resolved, however; experts expect the case to be revived in the New Year.
