Timor inquiry: The list of suspects


Militiamen
Indonesia's Attorney General has released a list of 19 military commanders, police chiefs, district heads and militia members who he says will face questioning over the violence that ravaged East Timor last year. They are:

Major General Adam Damiri
Former Commander Bali-based IV/Udayana Military Area Command with responsibility for East Timor. A two star general, General Damiri is the highest ranking general on the list of suspects.

Brigadier General Tono Suratman
Former Commander of East Timor's 154/Wiradharma Military Provincial Command until three weeks before the August 30, 1999 referendum.

Colonel M Nur Muis
Brigadier General Tono Suratman's replacement, army commander in East Timor at the time of the referendum.

Brigadier General Timbul Silaen
Former chief of police in East Timor

Abilio Soares
Former Governor of East Timor

Colonel Yayat Sudrajat
Former Commander of the Indonesian army's special Tribuana Task Force for East Timor

Lieutenant Colonel Gulman Gultom
Former Police Chief in the East Timorese capital, Dili

Lieutenant Colonel Sudjarwo
Former Commander Dili Military District Command

Leoneto Martin
Former head of Liquica district in the west of the territory

Lieutenant Colonel Asep Kuswandi
Former Commander Liquica Military District Command

Lieutenant Colonel A Palopa
Former chief of police in Liquica

Lieutenant Colonel Erman Sudjono
Former head of Covalima district in the south-west of the territory

Lieutenant Colonel Gatot Subiaktoro
Former chief of police in Suai, near the border with West Timor

Lieutenant Colonel Lili Kusardiyanto
Former Commander Suai Military District Command

Captain Ahmad Syamsudin
Former Chief of Staff Suai Military District Command

Lieutenant Sugito
Former Commander Suai Military Sector Command

The three members of members of pro-Indonesian militias listed as suspects are:

Izidio Manek
Alisio Mau
Martinus Bere
