Prominent Chinese dissident in hospital

The exiled Chinese dissident, Wei Jingsheng, has been treated in hospital in the Canadian city of Montreal for suspected heart problems.

The organisers of a human rights conference in the city said Mr Wei's appearance had been cancelled after he was rushed to hospital for tests.

The hospital said he later discharged himself.

A prominent campaigner for Democracy, Wei Jiongsheng was allowed to travel to North America last November after spending nearly twenty years in prison in China.
