Indonesia returns E Timor rebels

Four men accused of involvement in armed attacks on East Timor's president and prime minister have been extradited from Indonesia.

Police escorted the men onto a plane in Jakarta, for the journey via Bali to East Timor's capital, Dili.

The alleged rebels were arrested at two separate locations in Indonesia in the wake of the attacks in February.

Rebel soldiers shot East Timor's president Jose Ramos-Horta several times, leaving him seriously injured.

Mr Ramos-Horta underwent weeks of treatment at an Australian hospital and only returned to his country last month.

East Timor Prosecutor-General Longuinhos Monteiro said that the men would be questioned upon arrival and could face charges of attempted murder.

Their extradition comes a week after the leader of the rebels behind the February attacks surrendered to authorities in Dili. Gastao Salsinha and 11 other rebels agreed to give themselves up on 29 April, in what leaders called a "historic moment" for East Timor.
