A tourist has returned a boomerang to the Australian museum from which he stole it 25 years ago, proving that the artefacts really do come back.
The boomerang had been on display in the Queensland outback town of Mount Isa before disappearing in 1983.
It was posted to the Frank Aston Underground Museum, which has now closed, from an address in the USA.
A brief note signed with only the name "Peter" was included, along with a cheque donation to the museum.
"We might write a letter to the gentleman thanking him for his pang of conscience"
"I removed this back in 1983 when I was younger and dumber," said the note.
"It was the wrong thing to do. I'm sorry, and I'm going to send it back."
Mount Isa's Mayor, Ron McCullough, told ABC News that the boomerang looked authentic with "a few battle marks" on it.
He said it would probably now be returned to its original owner.
Peter had included his full name and address on the envelope, Mr McCullough added.
"We might write a letter to the gentleman thanking him for his pang of conscience," he said.
