Brunei marks lavish royal wedding

Khairal Khalil and Princess Majeedah Nuurul Bulqiah pray during the wedding ceremony A two-week lavish wedding celebration has ended in the oil-rich sultanate of Brunei, with the royal couple's presentation to the people.

Princess Majeedah Nuurul Bulqiah, 31, and Khairal Khalil, 32, exchanged their marriage vows on Thursday.

On Sunday, they bowed to the bride's wealthy father, the Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah.

The couple were then cheered by thousands as they drove through the capital, Bandar Seri Begawan.

Sultan Hassanal, one of the world's richest men, will on Monday host a lavish banquet in his palace for the newly-weds and many guests.

Princess Majeedah is the fourth of Sultan Hassanal's 11 children. She works at the environment, parks and recreation department.

Her husband is an assistant officer in the prime minister's office.
