NUMBER NEWS

Barack Obama retains his lead in all four tracking polls, except Gallup, which has the race tied.

The Allstate/National Journal battleground polls focused on states that were won by John Kerry in 2004, but which are being targeted by John McCain this year: Michigan, Pennsylvania, and New Hampshire.

The pollsters found that Barack Obama was hanging onto leads in all three states, by just one point in New Hampshire, two points in Pennsylvania and a comfortable eight points in Michigan.

A Rasmussen poll of Pennsylvania gives Mr Obama a slightly more substantial four-point lead in Pennsylvania, but gives Mr McCain a one-point lead in Ohio.
