Hurricane Gustav reaches US

After claiming the lives of more than 80 people in the Caribbean, Hurricane Gustav made landfall, battering the US Gulf coast.

The hurricane continued, but the worst of the storm missed New Orleans, which was badly damaged by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
