More Brazil murder remains found

More body parts belonging to a British teenager murdered in Brazil have been discovered, police have said.

The torso of Cara Marie Burke, 17, from south London, was found last week in a suitcase in the city of Goiania.

Officers have now recovered what they believe are Miss Burke's head, forearms and left leg from near a remote river close to the central Brazilian city.

Inspector Carlos Raimundo Batista said police were confident the body parts were the murdered teenager's.

A labourer found the leg near the town of Bonfinopolis, about 30km from Goiania in the central state of Goias, on Sunday, leading police to the area where the other remains were recovered.

Last week Goias state police said Mohamed D'Ali Carvalho dos Santos, 20, had admitted murdering Miss Burke. He has been charged with homicide.

After his arrest the suspect told the BBC he and Ms Burke had been "friends". Asked if he killed her, he replied "not exactly".

Police believe Mr Santos was living in London during 2006 and 2007, and returned to Brazil this year.

Officers also believe Miss Burke may have travelled to the country to marry Mr Santos to secure him a visa.

The teenager's family have denied the pair were a couple.
