British supermodel Naomi Campbell has checked out of hospital in Brazil where she underwent abdominal surgery this week to remove a cyst.

A helicopter whisked her away from the Sirio-Libanes Hospital in Sao Paulo to avoid the cameras of waiting media, medical and press sources say.

Campbell, 37, a frequent visitor to Brazil, was "completely cured", her doctor said after Monday's operation.

The hospital is reputed to be one of the best in Brazil.

Hospital spokeswoman Mirtes Bogea said the model had "recovered very well from her surgery".

"Doctors signed her release and she left in the afternoon in a helicopter that someone sent to pick her up," she added.

Earlier, gynaecologist Jose Aristodemo Pinotti said her operation had been a success, without giving details.
