There has been a large influx of blood donors since the tragedy occurred, and many centres are now advising potential donors not to turn up without phoning beforehand.
American Red Cross
www.redcross.org
The American Red Cross is accepting blood donations from US citizens. Fill in the
online donation form, and a Red Cross representative will telephone back to schedule an appointment.
The New York Blood Center
www.nybloodcenter.org
The New York Blood Center is also accepting blood donations from city residents. The organisation advises volunteers to make an appointment before turning up, or wait a few weeks while the crisis unfolds. To find the nearest donation centre, call 1800 933 2566 or refer to information on the website.
Map of New York City
