Puff Daddy's trial halted

Jury selection in the trial of rap star Puff Daddy was suspended for a day on Monday when his co-defendant was arrested for driving with a suspended licence, police have said.

Jamal Barrow, 20, was arrested on Sunday evening after the Mercedes he was driving collided with another car in Manhattan, injuring two people in the other vehicle.

Investigators said the other driver was at fault but Barrow was driving with a suspended Florida licence.

He is on trial with rapper and producer Sean Combs, and Anthony Jones, accused of attempted murder and gun possession.

Puff Daddy is charged with possession of a weapon and trying to bribe his driver to take the blame.

The charges stem from a 1999 nightclub shootout in which three people were injured.

Attempted murder

Barrow has been out on $35,000 (£23,245) bail on the attempted murder charge since he was charged.

Jury selection in the case will resume on Tuesday and the trial itself is expected to last several days.

Prosecutors say the rapper, who was with his girlfriend, film star and singer Jennifer Lopez, got into an argument at the nightclub, and several shots were fired.

Puff Daddy was arrested after being driven away at high speed, allegedly with a gun in his car. If convicted, he could face up to 15 years in prison.

The performer has hired the services of a top team of lawyers, including Johnnie Cochran, who represented OJ Simpson, and Ben Brafman, best known for defending leading mafia figures.
