Can you afford a car, but choose to cycle instead? Do you feel you are better off by bike?
The BBC's Africa Have Your Say would like to hear from you. Send us your pictures and tell us why you choose to cycle.
The recent fuel shortages in Lagos, Nigeria, caused commuter chaos. Many workers stayed at home, while roads were jammed by motorists queuing in search of petrol.
In cities like Nairobi, the traffic is so sluggish that it would often be quicker to cycle. Nevertheless, most people who can afford to commute by car still do so - even when it delays their journey.
Are you in Africa? Do you choose pedal power over petrol power? Is it time for more Africans to swallow their pride and get back on their bicycles? Or is cycling simply too dangerous where you are?
