Sahari students withdraw from Moroccan universities

Activists from the disputed Western Sahara say hundreds of Sahari students have withdrawn from Moroccan universities in protest at their treatment by the kingdom's security forces.

A number of Sahari students were arrested last week following violent clashes with the security forces.

So far there has been no word on the student action from the Moroccan authorities.

A BBC correspondent in Rabat says the integration of thousands of students from Western Sahara into Moroccan universities had been hailed as one of the great successes of Morocco's takeover of the territory twenty-five years ago.
