Uganda's army has killed eight Kenyan cattle rustlers during an operation to counter livestock theft, officials say.
Army spokesman Major Felix Kulayigye said the cattle raiders attacked an army battalion sparking a shoot out.
On Wednesday, Kenya began investigating reports that scores of Pokot villagers were killed by rockets fired by the Ugandan soldiers inside Kenya.
Uganda's army began disarming villagers in Karamoja in the east last week to disarm herders and halt cattle thefts.
But Uganda's army spokesman denied claims they pursued cattle raiders into Kenya. "Our soldiers did not enter Kenya, the Pokot raiders were killed in Uganda during a confrontation where one soldier was killed," Major Kulayigye told the BBC.
During the operation the Ugandan army recovered 250 herds of cattle believed to have been stolen by the Pokot raiders.
Some 66 children were killed during a similar operation by the Ugandan army last March, according a report by UK charity Save the Children.
But the army denied the claims saying only adults were killed during the raids then.
