A South African police officer shot dead four colleagues, three women and a baby on Monday night, and was himself shot dead by police early on Tuesday.
The man first shot the women and child in Tarlton, north-west of Johannesburg. He then opened fire at a police station in Krugersdorp, killing four officers about 1900 local time (1700 GMT).
He was shot dead in Sebokeng, south of Johannesburg, after a manhunt. Police say the motive for the shooting spree is unknown.
Three of the officers were shot in an office inside the Kagiso police station - two in the head and one in the chest.
The three were found lying under a table scattered with dockets, with three bullet holes marking the wall behind the table.
The fourth officer was found lying outside with a bullet wound in his chest.
A woman was taken to hospital after being wounded in the Tarlton shooting.
South Africa has one of the world's highest rates of violent crime.
