Kofi Annan to address Aids conference

The Secretary General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan, will today give a keynote address to an international conference on HIV and Aids in Africa.

It's the final day of the meeting which is taking place in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, attended by leaders of many African nations.

During the conference the UN's top Aids official told delegates that fewer people in Africa will become infected with HIV this year than last, but he added that the numbers are still totally unacceptable.

Mr Annan is on the last full day of his visit to Ethiopia and will leave for the Eritrean capital, Asmara, on Friday.
