Riots over land in Nairobi

Riots have broken out in a suburb of the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, between Muslims and slum dwellers fighting over land.

Up to four people are reported to have been killed and many others injured.

A number of shops were set on fire, as well as a hotel, a mosque and two churches.

Police fired tear gas to try to end the riot, but a BBC correspondent in Nairobi says they were powerless in the face of large numbers of people armed with sticks, stones, knives and machetes.
