Beer to celebrate crime-fighting

Beer

Crimestoppers in Nottinghamshire is to celebrate its 10th anniversary with the launch of a beer called Most Wanted.

Castle Rock Brewery is making the beer for the occasion, and it will be unveiled in Nottingham on Thursday at a special ceremony.

A percentage of the sales will go to Crimestoppers.

Kate Davies, strategic director of Notts County Drug and Alcohol Action Team said "a more appropriate approach" could have been used to celebrate.

"There are more appropriate approaches that could have been used to emphasise the Crimestoppers campaign and get the message across," she said.

But Andrew Bailey, chair of Nottinghamshire Crimestoppers said: "The launch of the Most Wanted beer is a fine way to mark the anniversary."

Mr Bailey said the beer had been named after the television show that airs monthly on BBC East Midlands, as well as the Crimestoppers website "and we're hoping the name of the beer will encourage people to contact Crimestoppers with information about crime".

Lock ups

A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Crimestoppers said it was a "different sort of way to celebrate" and that seeing Most Wanted in pubs would "make more people think about crime".

The beer will be unveiled at Keans Head Public House at St Mary's Gate on Thursday afternoon.

Colin Wilde, commercial director of Castle Rock Brewery, which is also celebrating its 10th anniversary, said the beer was a "celebration of the achievements" of Nottinghamshire Crimestoppers.

There will be other fundraising activities as part of the anniversary celebrations, including 'Lock Up Your Boss' night on 6 June.

Employees across the county will get the chance to put their bosses behind bars in Nottingham's Galleries of Justice to raise money for charity.
