Rise in plastic rubbish in Thames

More than 400 tonnes of rubbish - most of it plastic - is being pulled out of the River Thames every year.

Most of the rubbish is being thrown from the riverbank or from passenger boats using the Thames, according to the Port of London Authority.

Geoff Buckby from the authority said: "The biggest problem we get is most of all plastic bottles."

It renewed calls for controls on how many plastic bags and bottles are used and how people get rid of them.
